Bilsart is pleased to present the group exhibition titled “Interzone” between January 4 and 27, 2024.

The exhibition brings together various aesthetics and media such as sound sculptures, paintings and videos by the artists Doğa Ünyaylar, Şevket Akıncı, Oğulcan Yiğit Özdemir and İlhami Tunç Gençer. ‘Interzone’ carries the idea of opening the doors of and strengthening our perception of the pre-conceptual movement via the works exhibited, the nature of the image and the ideas of the artists’ approaches towards collectivism in their production processes.

ABOUT DOĞA ÜNYAYLAR

Doğa Ünyaylar was born into a family of musicians. She took music theory and flute lessons at an early age. She completed her undergraduate education at Marmara University Atatürk Faculty of Education, Department of Painting and Art. During her education, she participated in various group exhibitions and took courses such as experimental art, sound art and interactive media at KunstUniversität Linz with the Erasmus program. She realized her first solo exhibition “Neither In Not Out Of Time” at KunstUniversität Linz. She took part in artist residencies in Austria and Lisbon. Ünyaylar also performs jazz improvisations and sound performances. He continues to work with Speculative Sound Studio, a universal collective. Ünyaylar’s work explores the relationship between sound production and its different contexts, experience, space and contemporary visual arts practices.

ABOUT ŞEVKET AKINCI

Şevket Akıncı is a guitarist, composer, improviser, arranger and music producer. As a songwriter, after the release of his album Uçurumda Açan in 1996, he has moved from traditional jazz (Neşet Ruacan Trio) to free improvisation and free jazz (Islak Köpek, Century, Dead Country, Holy Ghost), from fusion (Lifeline, Weed) to Turkish art music (Elektronik Kumpanya); He took part in projects (Şirin Soysal albums, Mugwump, Sputnik Sweetheart, Mutant, Konjo) that blended many genres including literature, dance, cinema, architecture, theater, plastic arts and painting with music. In 2017, Akıncı’s album Escher Chronicles was nominated for a Grammy and in January 2020 she released her new song album Radyo Ekoton.

ABOUT OĞULCAN YİĞİT ÖZDEMİR

Born in 1991, in Bakirkoy, Istanbul. Graduated from Besiktas Ataturk Anatolian High School in 2008 and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Painting Department in 2017. He gave his MA thesis in Bilgi University, Cultural Studies Programme in 2022. Continues his work in his studio in Istanbul.

ABOUT İLHAMİ TUNÇ GENÇER

İlhami Tunç Gençer was born in 1984 in Istanbul. He completed his secondary education at 50th Year Tehran High School. Immediately afterwards, he started to study graphic design at Haliç University. His animation works were shown in nearly 200 festivals. He received various national/international awards, served as a jury, held retrospective screenings in Turkey and abroad, and organized joint exhibitions with international surrealist groups. Then he completed his first feature-length animation work “love”.
