/ ya da ufuk çizgisi sadece bir çatlak mı? doğal olan ile doğal olmayan arasında var olduğu farz edilen ayrımın eğik çizgisine yerleşen video kolajlarıdır. Sanatçı anlatının çatlaklarının içinde oturarak bir üretimin mümkün olup olmadığını sorgularken buluntu insansız hava araçları görüntülerini kullanarak, gezinen bir alt metin ile farklı felaket anlarını izleyiciye iletir.
Sanatçı Hakkında
Merve Ünsal İstanbul’da yaşayan ve çalışan bir sanatçıdır. Uyum sağlama yöntemleri üzerine çalışır ve fotoğraf, video, radyo, ses, performans ya da mekâna özgü enstalasyonlar aracılığıyla düşünür. Çalışmaları dünyanın çeşitli yerlerinde, çoğunlukla Beyrut, Berlin, Kahire, Yeni Delhi ve Toronto’daki sanatçı odaklı girişimler aracılığıyla sergilendi; Delfina Foundation (Londra), Praksis (Oslo), Fogo Island Arts, Art Metropole (Toronto) ve University of Delaware (Lewes) tarafından desteklenerek sanatçı rezidanslarına katıldı. 2014-2015 yıllarında Ashkal Alwan (Beyrut), Homework Space’de öğrenme programında yer aldı. Sanatçı merkezli platform m-est.org’un kurucu editörü olan Merve Ünsal, 2019-2021 Arter Araştırma Programı’nın eş-kolaylaştırıcılığını üstlendi.

/ or is the horizon line just another crack? is a series of collages that are embedded in the forward slash that is assumed to exist between the natural and the unnatural. Questioning whether it is possible to produce while seated within the cracks of narrative, I use found drone images as well as a wandering subtext to recount various moments of catastrophe.
About the Artist
Merve Ünsal is an artist who lives and works in Istanbul. She works around methods of tuning in. She thinks through the media of photography, video, radio, sound, performance, and site-specific installations. She has shown her work in a variety of contexts across the world, most often through artist-driven initiatives in Beirut, Berlin, Cairo, New Delhi, Toronto; she has been supported by the Delfina Foundation (London), Praksis (Oslo), Fogo Island Arts, Art Metropole (Toronto), and University of Delaware (Lewes) to participate in artist residencies. She took part in the learning program at Ashkal Alwan (Beirut), Homework Space in 2014-2015. Merve is the founding editor of the artist-centered platform m-est.org. She co-facilitated the Arter Research Programme, 2019-2021.
