WASTETOPIA

Curator: Melike Bayık
Art Talk: Pınar Akkurt & Melike Bayık
02.10.2024

Bilsart presents Pınar Akkurt’s exhibition “Wastetopia” curated by Melike Bayık between October 02 – October 12, 2024.

Humanity has long aimed for personal and societal progress, and with the growth of industry and technology focused on human benefit, a “consume-discard” approach has also emerged. It’s evident that the absence of a sustainable system analysis for anything consumed has led us to these peculiar days, where the climate crisis is knocking on our doors. Creative upcycling possibilities could offer solutions, but humanity’s sarcastic and conformist attitude, coupled with the inconsistent and unsustainable relationship between production and consumption, undermines a sustainable future. Despite waste spreading to every corner of the earth, insatiable humanity remains undeterred. With the “Wastetopia” exhibition, Akkurt presents a stark, multi-layered world that boldly expresses the absurdities of earthly existence while questioning the reality of a sustainable future.
